More about Janet
I am a writer and actor with a background in professional theatre, performance poetry and radio copywriting. A graduate of the NZ National Drama School,
I have co-written shows for the stage (one was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 1980) and more recently, for the popular local duo The Babbling Trillbillys.
As a writer of stage scripts, radio ads, slam & performance poetry, and, as an actor & comedian, I believe I have expertise gained through experience.
However, I have also studied acting and writing at University, and have gained recognition for my skills with awards for poetry writing and performance. Eg Ipswich Poetry Awards, Slam Poetry at Woodford, Ipswich from Page to Stage, and the Boonah Spar Arts Festivals.
I can create the best results from my clients by drawing out details of significant events in their lives, amusing anecdotes, childhood memories etc, and then, combine all those threads into a poem (or a speech) that celebrates the essence of that person with humour and affection.
Through practice, I have developed a skill with words that I am constantly refining and I believe, an ease and fluency of style that are the legacy of an acting background - where you’re trained to tune in to the spoken word, with all of its nuances of tone and meaning.
In addition, 67 years of life experience across many varied aspects of society also means I can respond to individual requirements with flexibility. And I hope that a basic respect for my fellow human beings underpins whatever I create.
